Just five months after the release of the hit singles Supernova and Armageddon, aespa follows up by launching their fifth mini album Whiplash. SM Entertainment released the music video for the eponymous title track Whiplash alongside the EP on October 21, 2024. The six-song mini album spans various genres, including the hip-hop-based Kill it, chill R&B Flights, Not Feelings and alt rock-inspired Just Another Girl.
Whiplash is a club EDM-based track featuring bass-heavy tech-house beats to accompany the aespa members’ snappy rap verses and ethereal vocals. The video is strung together with crazy camera angles and whiplash-worthy whip pans, exuding high-tech and high fashion energy. Throughout the video, aespa switches through four different sets of costumes. Altogether, their MV wardrobe is a mix of Y3K and runway styles plus tech and military wear, giving K-pop fashion fans ample outfit inspo!
Winter

In the beginning of the MV, aespa gets the ball rolling with Y3K-style edgy ‘fits. Set at a bright white studio, the backdrop creates a striking contrast with the girls’ all-black ensembles and complex props. Winter’s silhouette steals the show: she layers a padded and cropped leather jacket over a skintight cut-out crop top, and a silver body chain accentuates her waist. The black-on-black outfit is complete with a mini A-line skirt and knee-high pointy heeled boots. Silver statement earrings stand out against her jet-black shaggy bob, and her 3D claw-shaped faux nails drive home the badass persona.

Karina

The first chorus of Whiplash is accompanied by the girls dressed in army-inspired outfits, with Karina front and center. Karina sports a black crop tank top with a similarly cropped green camo jacket. She matches her top with army green short shorts layered over sheer black tights. For combat-ready utilitarian flair, she throws on glossy black boots, a leather belt, a chunky waist bag and a knee pad. A bold gold chain and gold hoop earrings add extra drama.

NingNing

In an outdoor scene, NingNing struts in a figure-flattering cut-out LBD featuring a mix of fabric and leather panels. She pairs with sleek accessories like a gold choker, gold arm cuff, minimal gold hoops and statement retro rectangular sunglasses. Her outfit is pulled together with black thigh-high socks and lace-up pointy leather boots.

Giselle

After the bridge, aespa returns to high fashion-ready black outfits. Giselle stuns with her pink hair slicked back into a low ponytail, and she wears a high-neck black bodysuit tucked into a leather mini skirt. To complement her unique pink hair and the glitchy red flashes of the music video, she dons bright red earrings. She completes the outfit with thigh-high black leg warmers over sharp heels for that Y3K-ready silhouette, plus heavily layered silver chains giving extra oomph.
