Mother Earth supports fair trade by importing shea butter directly from women organizations in Ghana since 2005. Seeds are harvested from shea trees and crushed, roasted, boiled and filtered in Ghana before the resulting butter is transported to Japan for bottling. The final product appears creamy yellow instead of the typical white owing to the use of mineral water and avoiding bleach during the manufacturing process. Mother Earth plays an active role in raising environmental awareness and community building by educating on the benefits of shea butter, and hosting baby massage lessons and naturopathy seminars.
