Jessica Ho, better known simply as Jessi, is a rapper and singer based in South Korea. Although she’s been active since 2005, it was only until her appearance on the first season of Unpretty Rapstar in 2015 that she gained widespread fame for her no-holds-barred and completely honest attitude – a rarity even in reality TV shows. Jessi quickly became a staple in various TV shows and one of my favorite style icons in the Korean music industry.
Fast forward to this year, she continues to be one of my faves with her deep, gravelly voice and vibrant, in-your-face aesthetic that is completely and unapologetically Jessi. Her saturated music videos are always chock-full of amazing outfits and her latest comeback did not disappoint. Her personality comes through every single time, with each sexy outfit including a definite touch of retro flair. Everyone wants to emulate Jessi’s IG baddie look with a mix of normcore, sportswear and party-chic styles.
Nothing screams ssenunni more than this figure-hugging, leopard-print top. The sheer, long-sleeved piece is a perfect base for Jessi’s outfit as it represents her fierce attitude. To bring out the neon serge stitching in the seams of the leopard-print top, I layered a neon bodysuit over it. The rapper always goes bold with her sartorial choices, and the halterneck and high thigh cut really accentuate her body.
I’ve chosen high-waist denim shorts with frayed hems and cut-out detailing accented with buckled straps to add texture to the smooth silhouette. The shorts cinch in the silhouette, and the side-seam cut-outs echo the cut-out effect of the bodysuit on the waistline. Denim shorts are a staple of any outfit by Jessi, whether she’s spitting bars on stage or lounging around at home.
Jessi’s style is anything but minimalist. That’s why it’s important to repeat certain details to make the outfit look put-together. Sunnies with the same leopard print as the long-sleeved top are great for accentuating Jessi’s usual cat-eye makeup. As for her footwear, sock boots in the same striking neon yellow as the bodysuit tie the look together. They’re made of fishnet material, which is almost always present in the rapper’s outfits.
Because we’re living in the renaissance of throwback looks, a black pleather belt bag is a great piece to match the belt-inspired accents on the shorts while giving the look a retro touch. Plus, the mini belt bag was a major accessory in her latest NUNU NANA music video.
Of course, no Jessi outfit would be complete without large hoop earrings. This iconic accessory is almost synonymous with the rapper. To add a luxe finishing to her outfit, I also layered on chain necklaces and bracelets. Instead of her usual silver, I gravitated toward gold to complement the warm tones of the top and sunnies as well as the golden hardware on the belt bag, unifying the whole outfit.
