You may not be able to look young forever, but you can always look young a lot longer! Maintaining a youthful and healthy complexion takes more than just effective skin care. It’s also important to take care of your health because what you eat greatly affects your skin.
Want to take years off your face but aren’t sure how? Here are some tips on how you can slow down premature skin aging:
Tip #1: Always apply sunscreen
You probably hear this reminder over and over, but that’s because it’s the most important one! Being exposed to the sun’s UV rays can damage your skin and cause premature skin aging. The best way to prevent this from happening is to apply sunscreen every day, not just on your face, but also on your décolletage and other parts of your body that are exposed to the sun.
Tip #2: Start an anti-aging skin care routine early
If you’re serious about looking young, it’s best to start your anti-aging skin care routine as early as possible, even if you’re still in your early 20s. Don’t wait until you start noticing premature fine lines. It’s a lot easier to prevent wrinkles than to get rid of them!

Tip #3: Incorporate facial massage in your routine
Besides its soothing and relaxing benefits, massaging your face is key to maintaining youthful-looking skin. Facial massages help increase blood flow, which gives your complexion a nice and healthy glow.
If you’re not skilled atin massaging your face with your own hands, you can count on face rollers or a gua sha to do the job for you! Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to use a face roller.
Tip #4: Add superfoods to your diet
Eating the right foods can make a huge difference to the state of your skin. Superfoods, such as blueberries, leafy vegetables and yogurt, are healthy and delicious foods that you should add to your diet if you want to look young longer.
These foods are packed with antioxidants, which help repair your skin especially if it’s been damaged by free radicals. Making a berry smoothie is one of the easiest ways you can add superfoods to your diet. Have it as a quick breakfast or afternoon snack!
Tip #5: Eat more fats
Not the unhealthy kind of fats, we mean the good ones! Our skin starts to lose its elasticity as we age and one way to keep it strong and supple is by eating a lot of healthy fats. A few good sources of healthy fats include avocados, coconut oil, fatty fish like salmon or mackerel, sweet potatoes and tomatoes.
Tip #6: Stay active
Staying active is key to slowing down the skin’s premature aging process. Whether it’s walking, doing yoga, swimming or playing sports, exercise actually keeps your body’s cells young. By exercising daily, your skin will benefit since exercising improves your overall blood flow and gives you a more radiant and healthier-looking complexion.
Tip #7: Try not to stress too much
Managing your stress is crucial to slowing down aging. Too much stress isn’t good for your mental and physical health, and also for your skin. It’s completely understandable to get stressed sometimes, but if you can, try and stress less and you’ll see the positive effects on your skin!

Tip #8: Drink more tea
A cup of tea, especially green tea, is known to contain catechins, which work holistically to slow down aging. Drinking tea every day is known to reduce body fat, combats dehydration, fight off free radicals, and reduce inflammation. Instead of reaching for sodfa or sugar-packed juices, go for a cup of tea instead. Green, oolong, white, rooibos and hibiscus teas are all ideal anti-aging teas.
Tip #9: Do a weekly face mask
Treating yourself to a face mask at least once a week is a great way to take care of your skin. As we get older, our skin can appear thinner and a lot drier. One reason behind this is that our skin starts to lose collagen as we age. Face masks, especially sheet masks, are packed with hydrating ingredients that deeply nourish the skin. As long as you keep your complexion hydrated, you can kiss those fine lines and wrinkles goodbye!
Tip #10: Always be gentle to your skin
Lastly, remember to always be gentle to your skin. Our skin is delicate so whether you’re cleansing or exfoliating, it’s important not to apply too much pressure on your skin otherwise you can end up with redness, irritation or, even worse, skin damage.
If you’re incorporating a lot of acids in your routine, like AHAs, BHAs, PHAs, or even retinol, remember not to overdo it as these ingredients are strong and can end up doing more damage than good if they’re not applied properly.
