I never used to be consistent about applying sunscreen every day, but ever since I entered my late 20s and started noticing some premature fine lines, everything changed. Now I take sun care very seriously!
I’m a big fan of Korean sunscreens as all of the ones I’ve tried don’t leave a white cast. They also don’t clog my pores or break me out, which is good news for my combination and acne-prone skin. I’ve tried sun gels, lotions and creams but I haven’t given sun essences a go yet so THANK YOU FARMER’s Sun Project Light and Shimmer Sun Essences will be my first. Read on to find out if I’ll be using them throughout summer:
My experience: As summer is right around the corner, I tend to look for sunscreens that offer at least SPF50+, especially for days when I’ll be out in the sun for a longer period of time. The Sun Project Light Sun Essence is formulated with glycine soja (soybean) lipids to keep your skin’s moisture intact, lotus flower extracts for pore care, and phyto-oligo to soothe and nourish skin.
This sun essence has a lightweight texture that spreads smoothly and absorbs into my skin almost instantly. It doesn’t leave my skin feeling sticky and it also doesn’t leave my T-zone areas greasy by the end of the day. I’m actually surprised that my skin looks quite matte after letting it fully absorb, so if you have oily skin, it’s worth giving this sun essence a try.
I also tried applying this sun essence before makeup and it doesn’t pill, so you can definitely wear this under makeup.
Most suitable for: Oily, combination or blemish-prone skin
My experience: The main difference between the two sun essences is that this Sun Project Shimmer Sun Essence features a light pink tint with a shimmery texture, while the Sun Project Light Sun Essence has a white, milky texture. This sun essence also has a lower sun protection factor of SPF30 instead of SPF50.
The Sun Project Shimmer Sun Essence is formulated with phyto-oligo to keep the skin moisturized, along with African walnut oil to prevent moisture loss. It also contains tocopheryl acetate, which is a form of vitamin E that helps improve skin health and prevent free radical damage. Thanks to caprylic/capric triglyceride, this sun essence applies flawlessly on skin and it also makes my skin feel softer after application.
Since it doesn’t have a high SPF, I can see myself using this as my go-to sunscreen when I’m indoors or if I’m quickly running errands. My favorite part about this sun essence is the subtle glow it leaves on my skin! It almost feels like a sunscreen-highlighter hybrid because of how it boosts the overall radiance of your complexion. If your skin lacks radiance, I highly recommend trying this.
Most suitable for: Dry, dull or tired-looking skin
My final thoughts
I really liked the end results of both the Sun Project Light Sun Essence and Shimmer Sun Essence. Neither one left a white cast and they both sink into skin easily. Both sun essences are equally moisturizing for my skin type and I can definitely see myself going through these tubes this summer. Their packaging is also travel-friendly and can fit in your everyday makeup bag, which is ideal for beach days.
If you have oily skin, you’ll love the Sun Project Light Sun Essence. For those with drier complexions, you can benefit a lot from the glowing effects of the Sun Project Shimmer Sun Essence. Both sun essences are also suitable for sensitive skin, thanks to the skin-friendly ingredients.
