My sensitive skin has improved a lot these two months, thanks to iUNIK’s Propolis Vitamin Synergy Serum and Eye Cream, which help to repair broken skin, as well as Secret Key’s Starting Treatment Kit, which helps to balance sebum levels. Next, I’m now super eager to get rid of my deep-rooted acne scars and prevent pimples. Seeing the popularity of yuja-infused skin care, I decided to give SOME BY MI’s Yuja Niacin Brightening series a shot.

Truth be told, I was a little skeptical towards this series since I’ve tried the brand’s most hyped AHA, BHA, PHA 30 Days Miracle series before and my skin didn’t react well to it. Thankfully, SOME BY MI’s four major skin care series (AHA, BHA, PHA 30 Days Miracle series, Yuja Niacin 30 Days Brightening series, Snail Truecica Miracle series and AHA, BHA, PHA 30 Days Miracle AC SOS series) all come in mini-sized four-step starter kits, allowing me to dip my toes in without having to buy full-sized products. Let’s see how this one fared on my super sensitive skin!

Step 1: Yuja Niacin 30 Days Miracle Brightening Toner

Main ingredients: 90% yuja extract, 105ppm yuja peel oil, 5% niacinamide
Thoughts: The entire series is characterized by a refreshing, therapeutic yuja scent perfect for summer. The toner smells so good that I almost wanted to drink it! It boasts a liquidy consistency but is a little denser and smoother than the AHA, BHA, PHA Miracle Toner due to the presence of yuja peel oil. There was a slight prickly sensation when I first tried it on, so those with sensitive skin might have to proceed with caution.

Step 2: Yuja Niacin 30 Days Blemish Care Serum

Main ingredients: 82.3% yuja extract, 293ppm yuja peel oil, 5% niacinamide
Thoughts: This serum has tiny bubbles in it and looks absolutely gorgeous in its clear yellow pump bottle. Like the toner, the super lightweight serum absorbs immediately into skin without effort. Again, your skin may feel a little prickly, but this might be due to Vitamin C reacting on dry and damaged skin and fighting off melanin.

Step 3: Yuja Niacin Brightening Moisture Gel Cream

Main ingredients: 90% yuja extract, 156ppm yuja peel oil, 5% niacinamide
Thoughts: Like Pyunkang Yul’s Acne Cream, this clear yellow gel-cream boasts a refreshing, non-sticky texture ideal for summer and humid places. The gel-cream may take a little longer to absorb than the serum, but once you pat it in, it leaves skin uber-soft with no residue.

Step 4: Yuja Niacin Brightening Sleeping Mask

Main ingredients: 70.5% yuja extract, 586ppm yuja peel oil, 5% niacinamide
Thoughts: The sleeping pack feels more like a gel-cream than a sleeping pack. There’s no doubt that it’s the most moisturizing among the four products in the starter kit. It’s also nothing like other sleeping masks I’ve tried. I usually wash off sleeping masks before sleep since I don’t really enjoy leaving any product on my skin overnight. However, my skin just drank this up within seconds, so there’s no need to wash off at all!

Step 5: Yuja Niacin Mineral 100 Brightening Sun Cream

Main ingredients: zinc oxide, titanium dioxide, 97ppm yuja extract, 2% niacinamide
Thoughts: Not included in the four-step starter kit, this SPF 50+ PA++++ sun cream comes in handy for summer. It has just the right amount of hydrating power to keep skin supple but not greasy. It feels like nothing on skin and leaves no white cast. Only when I removed it with oil cleanser did I notice that I’d been wearing it all day.

The Verdict

I’ve been adhering to this routine for seven nights (plus the sun cream during the day). The brightening effect worked as I noticed my existing scars retreating. I found my complexion more even-toned and my pores less obvious. I’m also a fan of the sun cream, which doesn’t irritate, glides on smoothly, feels weightless and looks completely transparent on skin.

The set’s only drawback is that it’s not hydrating enough, so I’d recommend using it as a morning routine. I was also a little worried about the initial itchy sensation, but my skin adapted to it soon and didn’t break out. Nonetheless, it’s always good practice to perform a patch test near your face first, especially if you have sensitive skin.

Most importantly, the citrus scent and quick-absorbing textures make this yuja set a breeze to wear in summer. Those with rough, oily skin who prefer refreshing to nourishing products will love this!
