Jeon So-yeon, known mononymously as Soyeon, is the leader and main rapper of K-pop girl group (G)I-DLE. Despite having only debuted with the group in 2018, Soyeon has been in the public eye since 2016 when she appeared in the survival reality TV shows Produce 101 and Unpretty Rapstar 3. She debuted as a solo artist in 2017 with the self-written digital single JELLY. Since then, the idol has written, produced and arranged multiple songs for (G)I-DLE as well as Cube Entertainment labelmate CLC. Along with fellow member Miyeon and singers Madison Beer and Jaira Burns, Soyeon is also part of the virtual K-pop girl group K/DA, which promotes League of Legends. Labeling Soyeon as a “monster rookie” would be an understatement.
A huge fan of (G)I-DLE, I’ve followed the group from its debut to its successful stint in last year’s reality TV show Queendom and amazing recent comeback with Oh My God and the I Trust album. I’ve already covered fellow member Soojin’s sweet and sexy style, so it’s high time I feature the multi-hyphenated Soyeon on Style Files.
Soyeon dresses for comfort during her days off, but she still oozes cool-girl chic. Joggers are uber-comfortable, but for a K-pop twist, I’ve chosen a pleather piece cinched at the waist and cuffed with elasticated bands. The sheen adds a touch of sophistication while its baggy cut still ensures ease of movement.
Cropped tops are a staple of Soyeon’s wardrobe. This refreshing mint-green top is a little nod to the idol’s favorite dessert: mint chocolate! The matching mint green belt bag breaks the solid-toned ensemble with its subtle daisy embroidery. Daisies are trending everywhere this summer, and they’re perfect for adding a feminine touch to contrast the pleather texture.
Considering Soyeon’s amazing stage presence, you might be shocked to know that she’s only 5′2″! The black trousers and the black high-top sneakers lengthen her silhouette by drawing the eyes downward.
Alas, the only thing I have in common with the multi-hyphenated performer is our favorite color, which is yellow. She usually wears the bright shade in small amounts, with the color popping up in details like her nails and accessories. To match the faux leather texture of her pants, I’ve styled Soyeon in her hat of choice – a subdued mustard beret!
K-pop styling means accessories galore! Neverlands (fans of (G)I-DLE) will know that Soyeon has an affinity for hoops and dangling earrings. To bring out the bright yellow tones of the beret and her nails, I’ve accessorized with gold-toned earrings. The subtly mismatched minimal hoop and chained hoop add a fun asymmetrical touch to the otherwise clean silhouette. The chained hoop earring also matches the chains on the bag, bringing the whole outfit together.
Soyeon is often seen in oversized sunnies in her airport OOTDs, so it would suffice to say that she LOVES them! After all, they’re a must-have to shield eyes from the summer sun. I’ve chosen black round sunnies with a subtle cat-eye silhouette to match her trousers and shoes as well as to accentuate her usual cat-eye makeup.
