Simple Ways to Create an Inspiring Work Space at Home

Estimated Reading Time: 2 minutes

When I first started working from home, I felt distracted most of the time. I used to work with my laptop in bed and it impacted my productivity… a lot! Working from home became easier when I started working at a proper desk.

To boost your productivity, the first thing you need to do is to get a proper working desk and chair. We spend most of our time working so the next (and most important) thing you can do is to decorate your work space to make it feel more comfortable and cozy. Decorating your desk in your own way helps keep you inspired while working, and also boosts your creativity. A well-decorated work space also means less procrastination! Here are some tips to help you get started:

Add some color

Adding some color to your desk is important because it not only influences your productivity, it also uplifts your mood. Even if you’re a minimalist at heart, try to include hints of color in your work environment – like the color yellow. This vibrant shade will warm up your desk and energize you, so you can kiss procrastination goodbye!

Don’t worry, you don’t have to do anything drastic like paint your wall yellow! An easy way to throw some color into your work space is to add a few desk accessories. It can be as simple as a stapler, masking tape or cute sticky notes.

Get a cute mug

Whether you drink tea, coffee or lemon water to fuel your mornings, drinking from a cute mug is always more fun. If you normally drink from a plain old mug, it’s time to upgrade! Pick a mug that suits your style and looks great on your desk. Already have a mug? Who says you can’t add one (or two) more?

Post some motivational quotes on your wall

A plain white wall doesn’t spike creativity or inspiration, but if you turn it into a wall filled with art or inspiring quotes, then you’ll find yourself feeling more motivated to get through your work days.

If you live in a rented space and can’t drill any holes in your wall to put up photo frames, you can always create some DIY art! Simply write your favorite motivational quotes on some cute memo pads and tape them up on your wall. You can also make your to-do list visible by getting wall planners filled with your upcoming tasks or projects. Pin them up your desk to help you manage your time better, or plan your week more efficiently.

Buy yourself some plants (whether they’re real or artificial)

Plants can turn any space into a livelier environment so if you’re already thinking of adding some greenery to your home, why not do the same for your work space? Having plants helps reduce stress and they add some warmth and style to your work desk.

Besides serving as great decor, there are also plants that help purify the air such as spider plants, snake plants, boston ferns or aloe vera. If you’re not ready to own a plant, you can always start with an artificial one.

Listen to music while you work

Music is, for me, my secret to staying focused on my work. Listening to music may be distracting for some, but if you pick the right playlist, you’ll find that it actually relaxes you and helps you be more productive. If you’re working alone from home, then feel free to play some music through a speaker. Check out some of these bluetooth speakers that will surely add a fun touch to your desk:
