Released on February 17, BLOOM*IZ, the first studio album from twelve-piece girl group IZ*ONE, is breaking records all over the place. It achieved the highest first-day and first-week sales ever by a K-pop girl group, making IZ*ONE the first K-pop girl group to sell over 300,000 copies of an album in its first week of release. The album’s title track Fiesta boasts an upbeat melody with lyrics like “All of my seasons, every day is a splendid festival,” so it’s no surprise that the music video also showcases a diverse array of attention-grabbing, party-ready looks that are sure to save you from your next “I have nothing cute to wear” meltdown.
Look 1: Black & White Glam
This first set of blinged-out outfits features contrasting panels and geometric rhinestone details that dazzle under the lights – equally appropriate for both night-out looks and stage costumes. I love the asymmetrical cut of the top, with the white panel tucked into high-waisted black shorts and the glitzy black panel left hanging out in a blazer dress style – all cinched in with a matching rhinestone belt. The outfits are chic and sleek while also making the girls look strong, empowered and fit to dance their hearts out. Knee-high heeled black boots leave only a small stretch of skin out for show, keeping things streamlined but not stuffy.
To recreate the look, start with a contrast-panel sequined blazer. This men’s piece offers the perfect oversized fit, especially when cinched in with an elasticized black belt embellished with floral rhinestones. You can also reinvent the ensemble with a more femme and form-fitting alternative. This two-piece comprises a mock-neck sequined long-sleeve top with a flirty cutout, as well as black short-shorts with unique gold zip and braided trim. Finally, this asymmetrical off-shoulder velvet and sequin top can be paired with the bottoms of your choice. A leather mini skirt will add textural contrast while skinny jeans will keep things low-key. To accessorize, steal Chaeyeon’s silver-tone tasseled epaulet for a military aesthetic and Wonyoung’s statement rhinestone fringe earrings for movie star elegance, tying it all together with classic black suede tall boots.
Look 2: Jewel-Toned Retro
For a more classy, upscale gathering like a cocktail party, look to IZ*ONE’s 60s-influenced jewel-toned outfits. Besides the cohesive monotone pieces in luxe satin material, other recurring elements include white boots, belts with large geometric buckles, and coordinated jewel-toned statement earrings. With the vibrant jewel tones doing most of the talking, silhouettes are kept pretty basic. Some standouts include Hyewon’s sleeveless ruched pink dress with a large Barbie-esque bow on the skirt and Chaewon’s off-shoulder puff-sleeve yellow dress with contrasting side-slit white panels. For more traditional cocktail dresses, opt for Sakura’s one-shoulder ruffled red dress or Yuri’s halter-neck teal dress. A put-together two-piece that can transition seamlessly from the office to after-work plans (just shrug off that black blazer!), Eunbi’s teal halter top and magenta pencil skirt make for a winning color combination. And if you’re not into minis at all, Yujin’s puff-sleeve pantsuit in a gorgeous deep purple and Minju’s boxy blue blazer dress also present refreshing and modern silhouettes.
To break up the monochrome palette, choose between Yena’s rhinestone belt for a bit of sparkle, Nako’s round buckle white belt for clean contrast, and Minju’s square buckle black belt for a classic pick. The girls mainly leave their hair straight down and casually unstyled, so statement earrings are a must for framing the face and adding pizzazz. Cop playful tassel dangle earrings inspired by Hyewon’s layered pink fringe pair, Yuri’s girly rhinestone flower earrings, or sophisticated green gemstone earrings that make as big a statement as Hitomi’s colorful rhinestone earwear.
Look 3: Farmgirl Grunge
This third look is the most unusual of all, layering crazy patchwork plaid dresses under long-sleeved Victorian white blouses with ruffles and bows, further juxtaposed with uber-wide buckled leather belts and black biker boots. These fun outfits are a blend of preppy, edgy and artsy, suitable for both outdoorsy, daytime activities and for one-of-a-kind nighttime getups – simply throw on a classic leather moto jacket and stacked black chokers to up your sex appeal.
It might be hard to find similar patchwork dresses on the market, so why not get creative and go plaid-on-plaid? Layer a cropped plaid cami or bustier over a plain white shirt (the puffier the sleeves, the better!), and finish off with a plaid panel skirt. To stay true to IZ*ONE’s outfits, go for a pleated mini skirt with buckles. For more covered-up options, this flouncy black midi skirt comes with both denim and plaid panels for a rocker chic feel, while this bright, girly yellow midi skirt with complementary dotted panels goes in a completely different direction. Don’t forget the essential finishing touch to your farmgirl grunge aesthetic – a thick black buckled elastic belt.
