Korean skin care brand Amill focuses mainly on cleansing products formulated with superfoods quinoa, oatmeal, chia seed, rice and flaxseed. For someone like me who has oily skin and loves waterproof makeup, a good cleansing routine is incredibly important. That’s why I’m reviewing Amill’s entire Super Grain range.

Before getting into the cleansing products, it’s important to know the main ingredients and what benefits they promise to deliver. Oatmeal is a gentle ingredient that nourishes skin and soothes acne and other skin irritations. Vitamin B-rich quinoa reduces skin pigmentation, improves skin elasticity and reduces sebum production. Flaxseed and chia seed are great at controlling sebum, promoting anti-inflammatory effects and speeding up the healing process of blemishes. Rice is an age-old skin care ingredient that soothes skin and improves its texture.

Step 1: Super Grain Cleansing Oil

Those with oily skin may understandably be not too fond of oil cleansers. However, oil cleansing is an essential first step to thoroughly remove makeup, especially if it’s waterproof.

The texture is the most shocking aspect of this cleanser as it is incredibly lightweight. Even as I was massaging it over my face, it didn’t feel very sticky, unlike most oil cleansers. My waterproof mascara was easily removed just by gently massaging the formula over my eyes. My lip tint did leave a slight stain, but the oil cleanser thoroughly removed my creamy lipstick. The formula turned opaque and watery when I rinsed it off with lukewarm water, and it didn’t leave behind any oily residue.

Step 2: Super Grain Foam Cleansing vs. Bubble Foam

The foam cleansers are quite different in texture but share the same function – thoroughly ridding your skin of ALL makeup and excess sebum that the oil cleanser might’ve missed. The Super Grain Foam Cleansing is a creamy cleanser that needs to be lathered up into foam, while the Bubble Foam comes out as foam already.

With a thicker consistency and a creamier texture, the Foam Cleansing provides a more thorough cleanse than the Bubble Foam. However, the Bubble Foam’s fine texture feels gentler and more soothing. After trying both cleansers, I definitely prefer the Super Grain Bubble Foam, which leaves my skin cleansed but not taut. It’s soothing and moisturizing – plus, I don’t have to lather up the formula!

I wouldn’t recommend using both products together even if you have extremely oily skin as it would strip skin of its natural oils.

Step 3: Super Grain Wash-Off Pack

The Super Grain Wash-Off Pack is a clay mask that has the same ingredients as the cleansers but with almond instead of chia seed. Rich in Vitamin E, almond is great for exfoliation and leaves skin smoother and blemish-free.

I initially worried that the formula would create micro-tears in my skin. However, the Super Grain Wash-Off Pack was not as grainy as it appeared and had a rather smooth texture that did not aggravate my skin. Amill recommends that it be washed off after 10 minutes, but I removed it after 6~7 minutes.

The wash-off pack definitely exfoliated my skin and left it feeling smoother. After every use, I noticed that my skin wasn’t as oily for the rest of the week.

Final Verdict: Does my oily skin like these products?

Since the main ingredients are quite similar across the board, all the products delivered the moisturizing and soothing cleanse I needed. The cleansing line has very consistent and on-brand packaging that highlights its natural ingredients, boasting a scent reminiscent of almond milk.

Overall, the four products worked really well with my oily skin. The cleansers and the wash-off pack were soothing and toned down the redness in my skin. The raw ingredients promised to fight hyperpigmentation but my sun spots were left untouched, although I did notice that my complexion looked brighter.

The Cleansing Oil was definitely a stand-out for me. Having never been too keen on oil cleansers, I was surprised by how refreshed my skin felt after every use.
