Keeping Dry Skin at Bay with Pyunkang Yul

I have combination skin but since moving to a new city, my skin has been drier than usual. So keeping it hydrated is my top priority.

Pyunkang Yul is a Korean skin care brand that puts healthy skin first, and offers products that help maintain the skin’s oil and moisture balance. All their products are formulated with natural ingredients, making them safe and gentle enough for all skin types.

Although the brand’s sought-after Essence Toner isn’t a newcomer to Korean skin care, it’s still a toner that’s been on my to-try list. Aside from dealing with dry skin, I also need a good exfoliant to improve my skin’s texture so I’ve also incorporated Pyunkang Yul’s Peeling Gel into my skin care regimen.

Peeling Gel

I normally exfoliate twice a week but I’ve brought it down to once per week since my dry winter skin doesn’t react well when I over exfoliate.

The Peeling Gel has a light gel texture that glides smoothly on the skin. It does smell quite medicinal, which can be off-putting if you’re sensitive to scented products. After my first and second cleanse, I massage the peeling gel all over my face, while paying more attention to my cheeks since that’s where I often break out and have a bit of rough texture. I don’t get a tingling sensation when using this so that’s a plus!

After using the gel for a few weeks, I saw an improvement in my skin’s texture. My skin now feels a lot smoother, particularly around my trouble spots where the skin feels bumpy, and my overall complexion looks less dull. This is a great exfoliant for those with dry skin as it’s gentle and doesn’t irritate the skin. Thanks to its nourishing ingredients, my skin feels moisturized and less inflamed.

Essence Toner

I was dedicated to my Dear, Klairs’ Supple Preparation Facial Toner, but when I emptied my bottle, I needed a new toner that’s just as hydrating. That’s where Pyunkang Yul’s Essence Toner comes in.

The first thing I noticed about the Essence Toner is its minimal ingredients list, which consists of only 7 ingredients! Instead of water, the toner is formulated with 90% astragalus root extract which replenishes moisture into the skin and helps promote a healthy, radiant complexion.

The Essence Toner has a watery texture and doesn’t contain any artificial fragrances, so it minimizes the chances of skin irritation and is an ideal toner for those with sensitive skin. I like to incorporate this toner into both my morning and night skin care routine as it leaves my skin feeling plump and hydrated, and preps my skin well for the next steps in my routine. As an incredibly hydrating toner, it doesn’t just deserve a spot on my winter skin care shelf – I definitely see myself incorporating this into my spring/summer skin care routine as well.

1/3 Cotton Pads

The last product I’m trying from Pyunkang Yul is the 1/3 Cotton Pads. Once upon a time, I would just pick out a random pack of cotton pads to use. However, I soon realized that my cotton pads actually absorbed way too much product, which was hindering its effects on my skin.

Using the right type of cotton pads, especially with your toner, makes a huge difference and the 1/3 Cotton Pads are perfect for pairing with the Essence Toner. Made from sponge pulp, the pads are super soft and don’t leave lint behind on my skin. The cotton pads also absorb just the right amount of product and their thinness ensures that I don’t waste any of my toner.

Another way to use these cotton pads is to soak them in essence and apply them as a DIY sheet mask. I’ve yet to try this but comment below if you’ve tried this!

Final Verdict

After only two weeks, my skin texture already felt a lot smoother and my skin felt more nourished than it was before I started incorporating these products into my routine. I’m a fan of all three products and I highly recommend anyone with dry and/or sensitive skin to give the Essence Toner, Peeling Gel and 1/3 Cotton Pads a go! You can also use these products if you have normal or oily skin and you’re just looking to give your skin a boost of hydration, especially during winter.
