A seamless day-to-night look is my idea of the perfect summer outfit, and achieving that can be rather complicated when I don’t know what to look for. I basically live in light dresses from May through September, when it’s scorching hot outside. These breezy silhouettes make for effortless outfits for daytime, but not necessarily elevated enough for a night out.
I say we boil it down to just one key piece per look. From practical accessories, bag swaps and shoe changes to capsule pieces with a twist, here are some easy ideas to smarten up casual looks for effortless day-to-night dressing!
1. Silky Cami from Jalynn
It’s always great to have a silky top that you can wear to work and after hours. Subtly draped at the front, this particular one looks luxurious and fancy enough for drinks out. All you have to do is take off the blazer at night.
2. Off-Shoulder Print Mini Dress from Babi n Pumkin
Well-placed ruffles feel sophisticated without making you look like you’re trying too hard. For those special summer occasions, a statement print dress like this is guaranteed to turn heads. The neckline can be worn off-the-shoulder depending on what look you’re going for. I love a dress that works hard, and this one will get me through a few events on my calendar!
3. White Sheath Dress with Contrast Trimming from DABAGIRL
A little white dress is a summer must-have, and this slick sheath, complete with smart contrast trimming, is an elegant muted frock that takes me effortlessly from day to night. It’s striking in its simplicity and versatility. With a switch-up of accessories, I can wear it from relaxed summer settings to dressy nights out.
4. Ruched Neon Skirt from DABAGIRL
Neon colors are (still) trending and I’m a sucker for different shades of green. Granted, it’s a polarizing trend, but also a surefire way to spice things up. This flattering fitted skirt is one easy way to indulge my whims for bright acid shades. I’d pair it with a simple white tee and trainers.
5. Crop Bomber Jacket from Girls Supply
For both day and night, bomber jackets are a practical and stylish layer to have on deck. This cropped style is perfect to juxtapose with girlish dresses and laid-back denims alike. It just makes any outfit look instantly cooler.
6. Pearl Hair Pins from MASANDCHRIS
A fun hair accessory will make any casual look feel trendy and fresh, and pearls remain big this year. I’m here for these pretty hair pins decked out in bright pearls to dress up colorful sundresses for date nights.
7. Woven Mules from UPTOWNHOLIC
Combining a woven upper with a block heel, these mules are perfect for summer. The muted color works well at the office, while the pointed toe and on-trend vintage heel mean they’re elevated enough for a night on the town too.
8. Tweed Flats from Pretty in Boots
Not into heels? This embellished pair of ballerina flats is just as ideal for giving daytime looks a night-out feel, in addition to being ultra-versatile and good for walking. No matter the season, I find a way to wear tweed. These polished kicks would look amazing with a simple little black (or white) dress.
9. Color-Block Structured Bag from DABAGIRL
Nothing instantly brightens a summer look quite like a bold-hued, structured handbag. This color-block shoulder bag practically screams for attention, and is perfect for accenting a breezy dress for work.
10. Straw Tote Bag from GOROKE
If you still don’t have a cool woven bag for summer, it’s time to get your hands on one! They’re quintessentially summery. This boxy style adds a polished vibe to any look. I want to carry it everywhere I go, from weekend errands to vacations.
