I’m always so excited at the sight of party invitations, seeing them as the perfect excuse to dress up fancy and spend the day (or night) feeling fabulous. Parties are one of the few chances we really get to play dress-up, after all.
I’ve been stocking up on lovely and comfortable outfits that would make me fit right in. While I’m always partial to smart yet fuss-free dresses (Because there’s absolutely nothing wrong with falling back on a one-and-done midi!), I’m also very into unexpected pairings.
If you have a special event to attend these next few months, be it a cocktail party, garden BBQ, destination wedding or anything in between, look to the following suggestions!
1. Printed Midi Dress from Be Bonita
The red-on-pink color combo of this floaty midi dress is naturally photogenic. The lightweight construction makes it a fabulous daytime style to wear with sandals, while the V-shaped neckline and shirred detail make it dressy enough for evenings out.
2. Contrast-Trim Lace Dress from Yonna
I’ve a real weakness for well-tailored lace dresses, and this elegant midi is perfect for me. The contrast trims and underlay make the gauzy lace pop. It’s made for summer weddings, and I’ve got a few to attend this year!
3. Off-Shoulder Midi Dress from Melekok
This tropical sundress feels so fresh, from the flirty off-the-shoulder cut and cutesy puffed sleeves to the ditsy floral print. I love how the waist is subtly nipped in and the midi skirt billows out slightly, topping off a flattering silhouette that’d look great with espadrilles.
4. Accordion-Pleat Ruffled Shorts from MERONGSHOP
If you’re looking for something different, why not opt for a pair of dress-like shorts? The matching belt, of-the-moment pleats and frilly trims of this flared style are sure to make heads turn at your next party. They’d look great with a statement top for a night out.
5. Backless Jumpsuit from Sincethen
Jumpsuits make legs look a mile longer and require the same level of styling effort as a dress. They are as statement-making as a dress but much more comfortable. This silky backless style takes things to a whole new level. Wear with an updo and drop earrings to show off the halter detail.
6. Checked Maxi Gown with Bow from EFO
I love slinky maxi dresses. Nothing makes you feel more like a princess than a floor-sweeping gown, so this open-back style would be my first go-to for a garden wedding. It flatters every figure with its striking check print and girlish bow at the back.
7. Floral Midi Skirt from PPGIRL
A gorgeous tropical print midi skirt like this one can work very well on nights out, as well as for formal occasions when paired with elegant styling. Gold-tone accessories and a slinky camisole are all it takes for a fancy overhaul.
8. Elbow-Sleeve Self-Tied Blazer from MASANDCHRIS
A tailored jacket adds instant polish to any look. One good example is to match a menswear-inspired blazer with a feminine gown. Crafted from breathable linen, this short-sleeved style is perfect for summer parties, and the self-tied belt ensures a flattering finish.
9. Matching Shorts Suit from DABAGIRL
Wearing the same color from head to toe is the easiest way to look pulled-together, and who doesn’t love the power (short) suit for a twist? The off-kilter wrap front, short sleeves and joyous citrusy color of this one provide plenty of visual interest!
10. Puff-Sleeve Mini Dress from LIPHOP
As long as the sleeves are demure and neckline is kept high, a slick mini dress is perfectly fine for formal occasions. This bright, happy dress will definitely help me have a good time at any party. I’d pair it with barely-there sandals to complete an effortless look that lets me dance all night.
