The four-member girl group BlackPink has stayed at the top of the charts since their 2016 debut. They’ve amassed a large following despite releasing only nine songs so far, and many are excited to see them as the first K-pop girl band to perform at Coachella this April. BlackPink’s talent was already apparent way before their debut as the main rapper and vocalist of the group, Jennie, had been featured in tracks for label-mates Lee Hi and G-Dragon during her pre-debut years.
There’s a reason why we featured Lisa for our very first Style Files post; BlackPink’s members are not only talented but also incredibly fashionable on and off the stage. Jennie is already considered a fashion icon and is often seen in Paris donning the latest trends. As a fellow Capricorn, I admire how her ensembles always have a great balance between vintage chic and modern casual items.
Nini, as she is affectionately called by other BlackPink members, is often seen in tweed sets on stage but she tends to mix it up with solid tones for her casual looks. I chose to style her with a white off-shoulder top intricately embroidered with red flowers to match the red tones and white highlights of both the skirt and bag.
BLINKS (the official fan club name) know that a Jennie outfit wouldn’t be complete without tweed or red. Jennie is often seen sporting this fabric and color even for her makeup, so I’ve chosen a red tartan skirt and crossbody bag for a set effect without looking too formal.
Jennie is frequently called the YG princess, so her accessories NEED to give off the most luxe vibes, which is why I’ve chosen to bring in faux pearl pieces. Since classic prints-and-pearls pairings have a danger of looking too dowdy, I’ve added the unique branch-like design of the choker to give the look a slightly modern touch.
Like all fans, I would love to see Jennie dye her hair to a shade lighter than chestnut brown but the natural shade suits her and complements her chic vibe. To contrast her dark tresses, I’ve picked a large hair pin embellished with faux pearls along with a pearl hair clip and another gold-toned embossed piece to match the buttons on her skirt.
Jennie often rocks platforms on and off the stage. The thick soles of the chunky sneakers add comfort as well as a sporty vibe to contrast her classy outfit, bringing it down to a more casual look. To accentuate Nini’s cuteness, I’ve completed the look with black mesh socks adhering to the color of the shoes, while the ribbon embellishment on the back matches the black bow on her bag.
