Bright & Bold: Winter Makeup Tips

The YesStyle Beauty Lab

Who said bright makeup is only for summer? Just because your wardrobe will switch to darker colors doesn’t mean your makeup has to follow suit. Why let winter take away all the fun?

Don’t tuck away your bright makeup items just yet, because you’ll want to wear them this season. Add a pop of color to your look with glitter eyeshadow or a swipe of coral or plum lipstick. You can even apply eyeliner with a modern twist.

Check out some makeup tips that will hopefully brighten up your dull winter days.

Tip #1: A Swipe of Coral or Red

Instead of reaching for the usual nude or mauve lipstick, why not try coral or red? Although they’re summer colors, you can still rock these shades in winter! Try a smudge-proof and long-lasting lip tint like Etude House’s Matte Chic Lip Lacquer (#RD302 is the perfect red for winter). Your lips will stay stained even after downing all those cups of hot cocoa and eggnog! If you’re all about glossy lips, check out MEMEBOX’s PONY EFFECT Favorite Fluid Lip Tint. MEMEBOX also carries coral shades like their PONY Blossom Lipstick in #03 Orange Dahlia and #05 Sweet Dream.

Tip #2: A Swipe of Plum

Plum is a popular lip shade for winter and it’s also one of my absolute favorite lip colors. I make use of my plum lipstick collection not only when temperatures dip, I give them some love in the summer as well. If you’re not a fan of red or coral, plum is a fail-proof choice as it adds a rich pop of color and boldness to your dark winter outfit. Try 3 CONCEPT EYES’ Supreme Violet Matte Lip Color (in #225 Flexible) for the perfect shade of violet for everyday wear.

Tip #3: Vibrant Mono Eyeshadow

You might be thinking, “Won’t one color seem too basic or boring?” Not when you choose richly pigmented and vibrant colors! Take your pick between The Saem’s Saemmul Single Shadow, 3 CONCEPT EYES’ One Color Shadow or innisfree’s My Palette My Shadow (Matte). These shadows offer a high color payoff, which is what you need to brighten up your look. Finish with a few coats of mascara or dark liquid eyeliner for bold and dramatic eye makeup.

Tip #4: All About Glitter

Adding sparkle on your entire eyelid, or even half of it, can make all the difference to your look! The party season is upon us so take the opportunity to be as extra as you can be. Don’t just dress to impress – dazzle the crowd with your dreamy glittering eyes.

Tip #5: Eyeliner with a Twist

This is probably a passing trend but that’s all the more reason to add it to your “to-try” list this season! Sometimes all it takes is a brightly colored eyeliner like CLIO’s Gelpresso Waterproof Pencil Gel Liner to perk up your neutral makeup look. Achieving this look is simple: Choose your preferred color and draw a line onto your crease. You can wear it alone, layer it over eyeshadow, or pair it with a coat of mascara. Leave it unblended for a bolder look, or blend it to add softness.
