Huxley Oil Essence vs Oil Light And More

The YesStyle Beauty Lab

Winter is coming so it’s crucial to make some switches with your skin care, which includes using more moisturizing products. I chose Huxley’s Oil Essence and Oil Light And More to review this time because: 1) I’ve fallen in love with Huxley’s brand image, and 2) I’ve never tried an oil essence nor a face oil before. You can also enjoy up to 60% off all Huxley products this week on YesStyle!

Great things never came from comfort zones

Take a look at Huxley’s IG feeds and I’m sure you’ll immediately fall in love with their aesthetic. Boasting photogenic packaging, the brand’s skin care range is characterized by the prime ingredient Prickly Pear Cactus Seed Oil, which is used by the Berber women of the Sahara to keep their skin hydrated in the harsh climate. The brand’s motto, “Great things never came from comfort zones,” probably refers to this precious and magical oil.

What are the benefits of prickly pear cactus seed oil?

I hear you asking that question. Prickly pear is a succulent that yields green, orange and raspberry-colored fruit. The oil extracted from its seeds is rich in Vitamin E, antioxidants and linoleic acid. Together, these components work to heal, hydrate and plump up the skin, while also reducing redness, inflammation and wrinkles. Huxley uses ECOCERT-certified organic Sahara prickly pear seed oil that’s hand-selected and cold-pressed in Morocco for maximum benefits.

Huxley Oil Essence vs Oil Light And More

The two products aren’t really comparable since one is a face oil and the other is an essence. Nonetheless, a table (which I’ve modified) from SkinCarisma summarizes the differences between the two:

Huxley Oil Essence ingredient list

Huxley Oil Light And More ingredient list

During my first few days of testing the two products out, I made a huge mistake of using Oil Light And More as a moisturizer. The result? My skin became drier and zits began to pop up. Only after reading our Beauty Editor Romy’s article on face oils did I realize that face oils CANNOT be used as moisturizers. Face oils can enhance the moisturizing and anti-aging effects of creams, but can never be used as a replacement.

In the days that followed, I used 2-3 drops of the oil in the morning before applying my makeup base to seal off moisture and enhance makeup adherence. The results were amazing – my skin stayed hydrated longer without any flaking, makeup blended in easier, and I had smoother and more resilient skin. I also loved how it left my skin with a natural sheen. At night I’d switch to Oil Essence, using a few drops after applying toner. It helped soothe and plump up skin, leaving it matte and silky smooth.

The verdict

If you could only choose one product from Huxley to start with, I’d suggest Oil Essence since it doesn’t need mixing with other products. But if you already own products you enjoy using and want to give your dry skin an extra boost, Oil Light And More is perfect. Both products may not be cheap but a little goes a long way, so stock up while they’re on sale!
