Putting together a skin care routine can be overwhelming – especially if you’re new to it all – but your skin will thank you later once you’ve stuck with one. You don’t have to do all 10 steps recommended by the typical Korean skin care routine. Why not start small?
The YesStyle x Dear, Klairs Box is here to help! This exclusive box features a 4-step skin care set featuring some of the brand’s best-selling products. These four products are all you need if you want to simplify your regimen – or if you’re just the type that doesn’t want to spend more than 10 minutes of your schedule for skin care.
Follow along with this 4-step Korean skin care routine:
Start off your routine the right way by cleansing twice a day. This step can’t be skipped! Cleansing removes all impurities from the skin including dirt, excess oil and makeup.
The Rich Moist Foaming Cleanser is a hypoallergenic face wash with a great formula. It doesn’t contain harsh chemicals because Dear, Klairs believes in creating products that cater to and don’t irritate sensitive skin. It’s formulated with amino acids that keep your skin moisturized while cleansing your pores. It also contains hyaluronic acid, ceramide 3 and olive oil – all of which help give you softer skin.
The cleanser comes in a bottle with a pump for easy dispensing. I use a pump and a half and that covers my entire face and neck. It comes out in a rich foam, like a mousse, and feels gentle on skin. In the morning I apply the cleanser using my hands, but at night I prefer to deep cleanse so I apply it with a konjac sponge.
I love the lightweight and fluffy texture of the cleanser but I’m not a fan of the smell. Normally, I’m not bothered by fragranced products but the tea tree scent feels quite strong to me. I personally don’t like tea tree oil, so if you like its scent then you won’t have a problem.
Overall, the Rich Moist Foaming Cleanser doesn’t strip the skin of its natural oils. If you wear makeup during the day, I suggest to double cleanse and use an oil cleanser before using this cleanser to make sure you get rid of the layers of makeup.
Applying toner after cleansing is essential as it restores your skin’s pH level and preps it for the following products you layer on.
I’ve never come across a toner as hydrating as the Supple Preparation Facial Toner. The toner contains plant extracts with a combination of hyaluronic acid and beta-glucan that are soothing and calming. In the past, I’ve used toners that leave me with dry patches so I’m glad that this one is extra moisturizing. Another plus is that it doesn’t irritate my sensitive skin!
You can apply this facial toner in two ways: 1) gently pat the toner onto your skin or 2) pour the toner on a cotton pad and gently wipe over your entire face. I prefer the second option as wiping also allows me to remove any leftover traces of makeup or dirt.
To maximize the toner’s effect, you can also use Dear, Klairs’ Toner Mate 2 in 1 Cotton Pad, which features a compressed cotton pad on one side and sponge pad on the other. The former is made with 100% cotton and acts as a gentle exfoliator for softer and smoother skin. The latter doesn’t fully absorb the toner but soaks it up to effectively deliver full hydration to skin. YesStyle published a video on how to apply the Supple Preparation Facial Toner using these facial pads so feel free to check it out!
Serums are formulated with a higher concentration of powerful active ingredients that are designed to tackle various skin concerns. They’re basically skin saviors.
Incorporating Vitamin C into your skin care routine has plenty of benefits, like preventing sun and environmental damage, improving complexion, reducing inflammation and providing moisture.
Dear, Klairs’ Freshly Juiced Vitamin Drop contains 5% ascorbic acid and claims to even out skin tone, fade pigmentation and prevent signs of aging. Most Vitamin C serums that I’ve used are packaged in dark, opaque bottles and at first I wondered why this serum comes in a clear drop bottle. Apparently, Dear, Klairs has created a formula that won’t destabilize as quickly as other serums, so it can be exposed to more light. But it’s still recommended to keep the serum away from direct sunlight or even store it in the fridge.
The Freshly Juiced Vitamin Drop can be applied once or twice a day, depending on your skin concerns. Since I’m aiming for maximum effectiveness, I apply it during the day to help my skin fight against free radicals and at night to recover from any post-sun damage. Don’t forget to follow up with sunscreen if you’re using it in the morning.
If you have sensitive skin, use 3-4 drops of the Freshly Juiced Vitamin Drop; otherwise you can squeeze out half the dropper for normal skin. The serum’s texture feels as thick as a facial oil yet light at the same time. It easily spreads and my skin absorbs it within a minute.
This is a great Vitamin C serum to start with if you’ve never used one before. Plus, it won’t break the bank as it’s affordable compared to other serums in the market. Right now, I don’t see a huge difference in terms of fading acne scars and it may, unfortunately, take more than a few weeks of use to really see its effectiveness as my scars are quite deep. Fingers crossed that they become less noticeable over time!
The last product of the set is the Rich Moist Soothing Cream. This step is the most important as it helps to seal in moisture and provide your skin with extra nourishment.
The things I like most about Dear, Klairs are that all its products contain only natural ingredients, and that the brand steers clear of animal testing. The Rich Moist Soothing Cream’s eco-responsible formula has been updated with added ingredients including shea butter, ceramide 3 and lipidure, which provides intense hydration.
I was particularly intrigued by ceramides and their benefits. All of us have ceramides, as they make up over 50% of our skin’s composition. They’re essential for protecting our skin from dehydration and environmental damage like pollution. As we age and the more our skin gets damaged by the sun, the amount and quality of ceramides deplete so using products that have this ingredient helps to keep skin firm, moist and supple.
According to Dear, Klairs, the cream is an all-year moisturizing cream made for battling sensitive skin through all seasons, and provides immediate as well as long-term moisture for a more radiant and hydrated complexion. Although a rich cream, it’s suitable for all skin types including oily skin. I do find it a bit too thick (at least for my combination-to-oily skin) to use during the day, especially when it’s still summer. Come winter, I don’t foresee a problem in using this during the day.
I absolutely love the Rich Moist Soothing Cream as part of my night skin care routine! My skin (no exaggeration here) glows after applying this! It doesn’t have a strong scent and it really hydrates skin well. I find that it takes a few minutes to completely absorb but I don’t mind as long as it doesn’t leave behind greasy residue. I also have some redness around my cheeks and this cream really helps calm the redness. Waking up the next day, my skin feels softer and plump. I’d highly recommend this if your main goal is to achieve a more hydrated and radiant complexion.
Do you have sensitive skin? Are you looking for affordable skin care? Are you looking to switch things up a bit with your routine? If you answered yes to these questions, then this skin care set is everything you’re looking for. Even though Dear, Klairs products cater to sensitive skin, they’re also suitable for other skin types including normal, dry, oily and combination skin.
