I’ve been using micellar water to remove makeup and that seemed to work fine for me all these years. I have combination skin with an oily T-zone and dry spots on my cheeks, and I used to steer clear of oil-based makeup removers thinking that they’d make my face even oilier. Boy, was I wrong! After researching oil cleansing and how it works, I found out that this method of removing makeup is especially beneficial for those who suffer from occasional breakouts as it thoroughly cleans your face and melts away dirt and sebum without stripping your skin of its natural oils.
The Rice Water Cleansing Rich Oil is a highly-hydrating deep cleansing oil that removes impurities while giving your skin much-needed moisture. Even though it’s for dry skin types and I have combination skin, I found it worked perfectly fine for me.
The cleanser is formulated with natural rice bran oil, rice extract and Aleurites Moluccana seed oil extracted from kukui nuts. The texture of the oil is quite thin, though I had assumed it would be the opposite. One thing to watch out for is the fragrance, which can be a downside for those who prefer not to use scented products or are sensitive to them. In those cases, I suggest doing a patch test on one part of your face just to see if your skin reacts negatively.
The packaging is simple and comes with a pump dispenser. I’m all about easy-to-use packaging! Oil cleansing is really simple and you can complete it in three steps. First, make sure your face and hands are dry. Take a pump of the cleansing oil (I usually use just one pump). Next, gently massage the oil all over your face, focusing on areas where you apply the most makeup. And finally, rinse it all off with lukewarm water. Voila!
My everyday makeup is nowhere near minimal so I want an oil cleanser that’s strong enough to get rid of the products I use yet still gentle on my skin. To show you how effective the oil is, I swatched my hand with the makeup products that I apply on a daily basis – which include liquid foundation, concealer, pencil eyeliner, liquid eyeliner, waterproof mascara, cheek tint, lip tint and lipstick.
It was a piece of cake getting all of the makeup off, though I struggled a bit removing the cheek tint. Overall, the product fulfilled its purpose as a cleansing oil.
What’s not to like?
- It dissolves makeup quickly and easily.
- It doesn’t leave an oily residue.
- It isn’t irritating on my skin, especially near my eyes.
- It gets rid of stubborn waterproof eye makeup.
- My skin feels moisturized and clean.
I can say that I’m definitely an oil cleansing convert. This product did an amazing job removing all the dirt and makeup on my face. I normally stick to fragrance-free products but luckily, my skin didn’t react poorly to the cleanser’s fragrance, and I wasn’t bothered with the smell either. This will be a staple in my skin care shelf from now on!
