Mid-Autumn Festival is over but it’s still unbearably hot, humid and rainy here in Hong Kong. Elsewhere in New York where it’s colder, fashionistas were dressed up in trendy fall outfits at the Spring/Summer 2018 Fashion Week. This season’s trends are easy to spot, with office-friendly retro power suits and glen plaids leading the way. Let’s borrow from the high street!

It’s all about power suits from the 80s this season. If you don’t have a glen plaid suit at home, get one right now. You won’t regret it because it’s going to last you the whole year. The suit jacket is particularly important. Go for taupe or brown instead of gray if you wish to go more retro. If possible, seek out details like fringes or contrasting cuffs. Tuck your white shirt into a pair of jeans, add black loafers and you’re all set!
Mix prints by combining checks of different sizes, like a glen plaid cape with a gingham dress. Keep the color palette in gray, brown, red or blue. Apart from shirts and jackets, you can also opt for sweaters, pants and shawls, just as long as it’s plaid!
Epitomizing the cowgirl vibe, this season’s wide-leg jeans feature a sturdy construction plus a classic zip-fly front. Details like frayed hemlines are a bonus.
The knot trend isn’t going away anytime soon, and its latest edition features lace-ups at the sides of dresses and pants. Leave the ends unfastened to create a slit at the hem.
Partly in tribute to the mod look from the 60s and partly continuing the white sneaker trend, this winter sees the rise of white ankle boots. Get a sturdy pair with block heels, and make it even more eye-catching with knee-high or fabric designs. White boots can be hard to pull off, but grays do go well with whites. Try wearing your boots with a white top, gray plaid jacket and jeans. See? They all come together in the end.
