My Top Ten: Sheer, Nearly Naked

10 ITEMS TO STYLE WITH DISTRESSED JEANS

Upon seeing the crazy styles at the much-talked-about 2015 Met Gala and my local high street, I can’t help but ask the question: Have sheer, next-to-naked, dare-to-bare designs become the new essential? I’m not entirely surprised, considering the popularity of see-through ensembles years ago (like Britney Spears’ sheer diamond bodysuit in her Toxic music video). For that matter, I expect to see less fabric and more skin in the near future.

If you’ve invested in a sheer frock but aren’t quite prepared to bare everything, this list will help you fulfil your daytime and night time styling needs.

1. Sheer Checked Button-Down from vivaruby DRESSES FOR VALENTINES DAY

This button-down is a versatile option when experimenting with the exposed lingerie trend. A pair of slouchy pants would be a nice companion to balance the sex appeal. If it’s a little chilly, count on a leather jacket for a little rocker edge.

2. Open Knit Top from DABAGIRL alt=

Also a fantastic option for flaunting your fanciest lingerie (a bandeau-like bra is the perfect accompaniment), this sheer knit top comes in an open knit construction that boosts the sexy see-through style. The light and airy layer makes for an effortless pair with distressed denim cut-offs for dressed-down days.

3. Sheer Crochet Blouse from JUSTONE DRESSES FOR VALENTINES DAY

A slightly more intricate design yet still effortless for downtime styling, this ivory crochet top looks great when layered over a bodysuit and slick leather pants. It tops my list of bold after-hours ensembles to try out this season.

4. Sheer T-shirt from FROMBEGINNING DRESSES FOR VALENTINES DAY

This completely sheer top might be one of the toughest sartorial challenges when dabbling in the see-through trend. There’s no impact revealing too little, while revealing too much threatens indecent exposure. I’d pair this diaphanous top with a bodycon camisole for an effortless and sheerly brilliant party look.

5. See-through T-Shirt Dress from DEMI DRESSES FOR VALENTINES DAY

Albeit minimalist in design, this semi-sheer number is an amazing opportunity to highlight my racer-back bodycon dress.

6. Sleeveless Shift Dress with Floral Lace Inserts from SARAH DRESSES FOR VALENTINES DAY

Floral lace is nothing new, but it gives this shift dress an alluring twist as an insert for its open-back design. The monochrome palette and demure design of this well-designed frock makes it a nice addition to my workwear collective.

7. Sheer Checked Jacket from WITH IPUN DRESSES FOR VALENTINES DAY

A monochrome, effortless cover-up like this checked jacket is the perfect way to get a beginner’s feet wet. It pairs with practically any look and guarantees that toughed-up street-style edge.

8. V-Neck Sheer Lip Print Blouse from DABAGIRL DRESSES FOR VALENTINES DAY

The vibrant lip print is like the cherry on top of this sexy blouse. Pair with a tonal V-neck bodysuit.

9. See-through Floral Blouse from MyFiona DRESSES FOR VALENTINES DAY

This sheer floral blouse, embellished with tonal embroidery throughout, is another great way to work sheer into the office repertoire. I’d throw a crisp white blazer on top and pair with a sleek pencil skirt for a minimalist edge.

10. Layered Chiffon Maxi Dress with Floral Panel from SEYLOS DRESSES FOR VALENTINES DAY

This is not exactly a see-through, near-naked style per se, but the layered design’s edgy, elegant take on the tired floral maxi dress secures a spot on my list. Flattering, appropriate and fashionable, this maxi is perfect for dressy weekend brunches with the girls.
