Slowly but surely, I’m learning to navigate the world of facial masks. After using a clay mask and more recently, a facial sheet mask, I found myself getting the Dr. Morita Q10 Eye Firming Mask with none of my usual hesitation. That’s progress, right?
Retailing for US$8.90, the Q10 Eye Firming Mask is a set of eight (8) pairs of eye patches in individual packets enriched with Q10, Vitamin K (potassium), collagen, hyaluronic acid and more. Q10, the key ingredient, is a coenzyme that produces energy in the body’s cells and is also an antioxidant, which helps eliminate free radicals that may cause aging. Q10 reportedly helps in repairing and regenerating skin cells. These eye masks supposedly lighten dark undereye circles, and help soothe and relieve the eye zone. Check and check on dark circles and stressed eye zone for me right here.
I’ve got my eyes on you
Like most facial masks, the eye patches are soaked with the enriched essence. I have to admit that I still feel a bit iffy about the gel-like coating of these products but hey, the vain don’t complain, right? The patches are shaped to fit right under the eye although on me, they also covered the bridge of my nose (So my nose gets Q10, too, yay!).
One good thing I noticed is that it’s easier to do a skin patch test thanks to the paper covers. They’re also soaked with essence so I used those to test for any adverse skin reactions. Once I was good to go, I wore the eye masks for 20 minutes instead of the recommended 10 to 15 minutes. My eye bags are horrendous and staring at a computer monitor for eight hours a day doesn’t do my eyes any good so I’m sure the extra five-minute spa time was worth it.
Seeing the light
After peeling off the patches, I could detect some improvement under my eyes. My eyes certainly looked less puffy than in the morning and they also looked a bit less dark. I’ll take whatever small victories I can get.
I’ve been using them every two days instead of everyday to make them last longer (yes, I’m frugal) but now I’m down to my last two pairs. While the box says the masks are good for everyday use, I know better than to expect results in just a few days. The patches are great as a quick fix when you have to look your best — or simply appear like a normal human being. As long as I get my seven hours of sleep each night plus regular use of these eye patches, I can see the light at the end of the dark eye bag tunnel.
