I’ve wanted to try out Korean brand The Saem for a long time now, but its products always seem to sell out quickly. Also, I’m indecisive, and the brand’s wide selection of products and cute packaging overwhelm me when I try to figure out what to get. I finally decided to start small with Ally’s Ajell Dual Nail Art Pen since I like to imagine that one day I’ll be good at nail art.
Read between the lines. I was surprised to see that the product came in a plastic tube rather than a standard glass nail polish bottle. Is this normal? Anyway, the 10ml tube features a thin brush for drawing lines and checks and a tiny nib at the top of the tube for dot patterns. YesStyle also carries this in gold, white and pink, but I chose basic black. However, it’s quite easy to see any mistakes or less than perfect lines in black. Since I’m a total beginner at nail art, I probably should’ve bought the gold one, so my mistakes would’ve looked cuter.
Pros and Pros. I’d gotten a manicure that already had a topcoat, so I didn’t put on another one after using the pen. This didn’t seem to matter as the ink didn’t smear or chip at all. But it took me an embarrassingly long time to figure out how to open the nib part. For the record, pull, don’t twist.
The best thing about this product is that it dries immediately. There’s no annoying lag time waving your hands like crazy, waiting for the ink to dry. Personally, I preferred the nib to make dot patterns since it was easier to handle and I was less likely to make mistakes. Straight lines are not my forte, but even so, the thin brush is quite easy to use. The grips on the cap make it easy to handle even in my shaky hands. There’s a sharp scent if you open the brush part, but it disappears quickly, and there’s no noticeable smell when using the nib.
I think US$8 is a pretty decent price since the product will last for quite a while depending on how often you do your nails (for me, this means forever). The tube’s also lightweight and small, so you can carry it in your purse or in a carry-on while traveling. Between reading online reviews and trying out this little pen, I’m ready for more of The Saem’s products.
