Inspired by the question "What if there were surfers in the Edo era?", Namitatsu explores the fashionable side of Japan's thriving and unique surf culture. An important period in Japanese history, Edo is also the ancient name of modern-day Tokyo. The name Namitatsu comes from the Japanese word nami meaning "wave" and tatsu meaning "master".

Originating from Tokyo's Asakusa district, Namitatsu combines traditional Japanese art and culture with the spontaneity and adrenaline rush of surfing. The brand's clothing collection features designs by founder Nobuyuki Yamazaki and his design team, as well as collaborations with other artists such as comic artist Hideo Takeda and calligrapher Kizan Kakinuma.

Namitatsu prides itself on its dedication to the surfing culture, its fashion and lifestyle products created and designed by surfers for those with the same passion. The brand also features fashion and lifestyle items for men, women and kids available in its 13 shops scattered throughout Japan, USA and Hong Kong.
