The Eyes Have It
Applying makeup to the eyes might be one of the more difficult aspects of beauty. Too much and you look like you’re ready for Halloween. Too little and well, why bother? YesStyle has a plethora of eye products and many of them are favourites of Hong Kong Fashion Geek.
If you are looking for great a mascara, be sure to try out Helena Rubinstein Lash Queen Feline Blacks Mascara Waterproof. It goes on very smoothly and is definitely long lasting. Also, little tip, if you’ve bought a mascara that you’re not loving, try using the wand from one you do – it may just be the brush and not the formula
Smashbox and Shu Uemura both do great powered eye shadows. But remember, if you want dramatic eye colour, go for soft palettes on the lips to avoid looking like a scary clown. You should also be careful with shimmer, they make eyes pop – but also highlight heavy lids, lines and wrinkles.
If you’re in a rush or are too lazy to grab an eye shadow brush, be sure to apply eye shadow using your fourth finger as it allows for a more delicate touch. But it’s always better to apply using a brush. We recommend the Bare Escentuals Eye Contour Shadow Brush.
To avoid eyeliner dropping onto your lower lids and creating that panda effect, it’s best to use liquid eyeliner. Little known fact, liquid eyeliner is applied below the lashes. When applying eyeliner, use one hand to gently lift your eyelid and slowly put on the eyeliner in little strokes rather than one long stroke in order to avoid wrinkles.
Finally, the most important part of applying eye makeup is this: get an adjustable mirror. If you are applying eye makeup with a regular mirror, you inadvertently wrinkle your forehead giving you unseemly lines later on!
