The Guide to Lush Lashes

Long, luscious eyelashes are becoming more popular, as thicker is certainly better these days. Aside from mascara, you can achieve a fuller set of eyelashes by using fake eyelashes. These are easier to put on than eyelash extensions which can take anywhere from one to two hours to apply and are best done by a professional. Also, don’t forget to take them off before you sleep, unless you’re Lady Gaga.

If you are fond of the “smoky eyes” look, fuller lashes are a must to create a strong impact. Fake eyelashes are also great for costume parties, like Halloween. There’s nothing like being dressed to impress (and thrill) from head to toe!

Test Drive

If you’ve never used fake eyelashes before and are itching to try, practice on a plain pair of false eyelashes first. This way, you figure out the proper length to fit the shape of your eyes, and whether you have any allergies to the special glue or the lashes themselves.

  • Test the placement of the lashes on your eyes and then trim the fake eyelashes to the desired length.
  • Apply lash glue and press fake lashes over your natural lash line.
  • Blink your eyes several times to check if you’re comfortable with the fit.
  • To remove the eyelashes, start from the outer corner and tug gently.
  • If you wish to reuse your fake eyelashes, don’t use any oil-based makeup remover on it.

If you are prone to eye allergies or irritations, it’s best to consult your eye doctor first to avoid any problems.

Outfits
An Extra Touch

Strip lashes are easier to apply than individual fake lashes and are also the most commonly available. After applying the lashes to your lash line, wait for the glue to dry before applying dark eyeliner to help blend the base of the lashes, making it look more natural. Finish the look with a coat or two of mascara.

Take It to the Extreme

Extreme false eyelashes come with many enhancements like jewels, rhinestones or even feathers, and are available in a spectrum of colors and varied lengths. These types of lashes are your best bet to add fun to your outfit and truly make a statement for an evening affair.

Make sure you have a tube of eyelash glue on hand (good for many applications), a tweezer (for hygienic purposes), and extra eyelashes to avoid last-minute “Oh no!” trips to the store.

Quick Tips

  • To obtain a cat’s-eye effect, add a few individual lashes near the end of your natural lashes.
  • For a child-like look with larger eyes, add individual lashes at the center.
  • Complement a set of fuller false eyelashes by using dramatic makeup for a special evening.
