Part 2
I WANT THAT STYLE!

KOREAN LAYER CHIC
Layer like a Korean Stylist with an All-American closet

It’s time to put the textbooks away. Now that we’ve covered the history and theory of K-fashion in Part 1, let’s start applying our knowledge into actual looks and outfits you can wear to school or out with friends on the weekends!

APPLYING THE BASICS
All theory aside, let’s get down to the tangible for school.

Korean prep uniforms make way for the smart but sexy collegiate look. Get back to school by stretching your wardrobe (and dollar) to the max. We’ll teach you how to restyle those American classics and twist them in a way for that Korean street style. Here are some examples to illustrate what we’ve discussed so far:

EXAMPLE 1

Lace-Up Belted Boots, MINISCANDAL, $82
Hooded Sleeveless Dress, With Mocha, $48 Distressed Denim Shorts, REDOPIN, $55 Round-Hem Single-Button Blazer, cocostar, $49.50 Crossbody Bag, AJITO, $45

The Classic/The Comfy: Hoodie + denim shorts

The Statement/The Edge: Lace-up boots + red bag

The Look: Take two classic American staples: the hoodie and a pair of denim shorts. Throwing in a pair of dangerously tall lace-up boots elevates this look into the Korean street-style category. Pull it all together with a sleek boyfriend blazer in a woven fabric (to balance all that jersey) for that casual tailored look. Add a punch of color with a bold red bag.

EXAMPLE 2

Flutter Sleeve Boat Neck Top, CLICK, $15

Studded Necklace, Kvoll, $25

Lace-Up Ankle Boots, Holly Shoes, $110 Faux-Leather Trim Canvas Backpack, AJITO, $58 Washed Skinny Jeans, Celli Girl, $30

The Classic/The Comfy: Flutter sleeve tee + skinny jeans + backpack

The Statement/The Edge: Camel color boots + necklace

The Look: A classic feminine tee with a pair of skinny jeans is beginner’s level in styling. Go beyond the norm by accentuating the neckline with a jeweled bib necklace and add a pair of lace-up boots in this season’s hottest color for a vintage element. A backpack is a must if you’re hauling textbooks from one class to another.

POP QUIZ!

Now it’s your turn! Do you really understand the components that go into K-style? Test yourself and tell me which ones are the classics vs. statements! Scroll down to the bottom for the answers!

“89″ T-Shirt, Alice Room, $38

Metal-Embellished Bangle, I’Miusa, $18 Strapless Smocked Print Dress, BAIMM, $35 Patent Beribboned Flats , HOBAK girls, $42 Floral Print Canvas Shoulder Bag, COZY. $50

SEOUL STYLIST

Ready to graduate from beginner’s level to pro-stylist? Here we go!

Excavation time! Before you go on a shopping rampage, take everything out of your closet before buying anything for your fall wardrobe (you never know what you’ll find in there!). Group all your clothes by category (tees, jackets, jeans etc) and figure out what you still have to get to avoid re-buying the same items. Donate the clothes you don’t want, or for the creative few, organize a clothing swap with other stylish like-minded friends.

Got a clean slate and chalked up a list of things to get? Here are some looks by Korean brand COZY that will hopefully inspire you for the upcoming semester! Get creative and styling!

No.1 Revive that old cropped jacket/blazer from last season’s K-school look. For a downtown edge, team with a long graphic tee that has an asymmetrical hem to throw things off a bit. Finish with old-school plaid print leggings or knee-high socks.
No.2 Take that classic American park-and-sports tee and pair with a slim chiffon floral skirt for a feminine city sportswear look.

Detachable Hooded Lining Jacket, cocostar, $55.80 Short-Sleeve “21″ Print Tee, CLICK, $13.50 Floral Print Skirt, Barbie sue, $35
No.3 Ease away from the tee/jeans combo by adding some fall-friendly layers. A vest keeps you warm without hiding the graphics on the tee. Swap those sandals for lace-up ankle boots and balance it on top with a flirty skirt.

“Smile” Print Elbow-Sleeve Tee, SDKING, $15 Asymmetric-Zip Vest, Soulmi, $75 Faux-Leather Handbag with Cross Strap, AJITO, $45 Ankle-Length Lace-Up Boots, Wifky, $105

Take summer’s popular floral dress into the fall by teaming with a classic collegiate or bomber jacket. Retro boots act as statement pieces to create a little grit to this feminine look.

It’s back to school in K-style!
