September Extras: Little-Known Facts about Clifton

- He has a radio voice and his regular voice. Most people don’t know that he uses his radio voice as his regular speaking voice. “When I listen to tapes of my DJ years back in Vancouver, I cringe!”
- He did a nine-month stint in selling timeshares for a famous hotel chain. “I was in it for the money, but it was very, very stressful!”
- He is not a big fan of the bestselling book “The Secret” by Rhonda Byrne. “A former boss once made us watch the video version of it every single day to purportedly help us with our sales technique. I don’t think it worked!”
- He may be a sought-after makeup artist but Clifton prefers not to come up with his own makeup line, unlike other makeup artists. “That would involve a lot of negotiating, meetings, research and development. I’m more of a creative person than anything.”
- Midnight Coffee Shop (深宵咖啡店) from his “Singles in Love” EP album holds special meaning. His good friend, songwriter Wendy Lee (李煥明) composed the music and lyrics and together, they recorded it in the bathroom! “Bathrooms have great acoustics and reverb!”

With five blogs, two Facebook fan pages (one for his recently-concluded “Singles in Love” show) and the Chinese version of Twitter, there’s no doubt that Clifton knows how to harness the power of the Internet and social networking. Here’s where you can find him.
The Internet’s most popular social networking site is where Clifton’s fans usually flock for updates or to simply just say hello to him. “I love the fact how people who don’t know me can ‘like’ me!”

Like other Hong Kong celebrities, Clifton has found a way to interact with his fans in China without having to go through the usual blocked channels. “Sina.com, a China-run portal, has a program similar to Twitter with almost the same concept of ‘following someone’. It’s the quickest way for me to reach my fans,” he shares.
