Nikki’s Inbox: Gleek-Tastic!

Dear Nikki,

Have you ever seen the show “Glee”? Right now I am in love with it, and also one of the main characters, Rachel Berry. I’ve actually come to really like her style (even though it’s a little bit grandmotherly or toddler-ish). What kind of Rachel Berry-like clothes are on YesStyle? I would go to a clothing store near me, but I hate shopping outside of Yesstyle!

Thanks for shopping with us, sweetheart! I really adore those who unabashedly love us.

I love “Glee” too! While I’m not always a fan of their fashion (Sue darling, you absolutely have to get out of those tracksuits, fast!), it’s the music that really keeps me watching episode after episode. Okay, I’ve come out of the “Glee” closet now!

I think Rachel Berry’s style reflects her character completely – she’s not so mature and she wants attention so badly but she does it the wrong way! Her classic prep-school style is sweet and well put-together – perfect color palettes and fun patterns that all fall in the neat uniform-formula of dress-shirt, cardigans and a skirt. However, I really think there’s a limit to how long you can wear knee socks though.

Pull off her style by reaching for preppy essentials in bright colors!

Dress-Shirts
Rachel is a star student whose crazy ambition drives her to work hard. The classic dress-shirt is an A-grade staple. Choose shirts in neutral colors like white, off-white or light blue so that you can build more vibrant colors on top. Pinstripes, three-quarter sleeves or short-sleeves are also appropriate variations.

Skirts
A plaid pleated skirt is a prerequisite for the uniform look. A staple of most private-school uniforms, they give instant smart attitude, in all the senses of the word. An A-line skirt in a solid color or a check pencil skirt are easy alternatives.

Cardigans or Vests
Add a cardigan or vest to the dress-shirt and skirt combo. Here’s your chance to pick colors and patterns that show off your personality. An argyle pattern in navy blue is the classic collegiate but don’t be afraid to mix bold yellows, pretty pastel pinks and blues, and rosy reds. Vests over short-sleeve dress- shirts are the way to go when the weather is warm.

The final accessories can change you from Rachel Berry to Blair Waldorf and a young Rory Gilmore. Easy flats and a hairband are perfect for school, while strings of pearls and Mary Jane pumps upgrade your style from classroom to office. Swap the backpack for a quilted handbag.

Now go Gleek your little heart out!
